Assistant Teacher
Position Title: Assistant Teacher
Location: Amen Child Development, Washington, DC
Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time
Reports To: Director
Overview
Join our dedicated team, where we are committed to creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for young learners. As an Assistant Teacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development and education of children in our care. You will work closely with the Lead Teacher and center staff to provide high-quality childcare and educational experiences that foster growth in all areas of development.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in daily classroom activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Support the implementation of the curriculum through activities that promote cognitive, social, and emotional development.
- Help prepare and organize educational materials and resources.
Child Supervision:
- Monitor and supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Engage with children through play, conversation, and structured activities to encourage learning and development.
Individualized Attention:
- Provide personalized attention and support to children, recognizing and responding to their individual needs and interests.
Behavior Management:
- Assist in maintaining a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere by using effective behavior management strategies.
- Guide children in developing social skills, including sharing, cooperation, and conflict resolution.
Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents and caregivers regarding their child’s daily activities, progress, and any concerns.
- Participate in parent-teacher meetings and center events as needed.
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to achieve the center’s educational goals.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Child Development Associate credential is also required.
- An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- At least 1-year experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children.
Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Background check clearance.
